Cullen beach This was taken on colour print film but shooting into the sun has produced the monochrome effect. The woman walking her dog turned up at a perfect time.

This aurora happened over Buckie in November 2003.
It was first seen at around 6pm, even through the street lights,
and continued until after midnight.
It was so strong it could be seen over the whole of northern Scotland
.

Pennan, the village where the movie "Local Hero" was filmed.
You used to be able to pass a happy couple of hours on a rainy day
visiting the Pennan Inn and reading the visitors' book which contains
many lines from people who write about how the movie changed their lives.
Then you could go home and watch the film.
Now though, the Inn is empty and up for sale. It's a sad sight
but a great bargain if you have 225,000 pounds to spare.

Aurora over Cullen, November 2004.
This aurora was first seen at around 7pm and grew quickly
in intensity over the following hour and a half.
At some points it covered the whole sky and was so strong that
observers saw it as far south as Manchester.

In May 2009, I took a photo each day from the same position, just after
the sun had dipped behind the cliff - or if there was no sun that night, just
after it would have dipped below the cliff. The photos show one of the
"Three Kings" of Cullen Bay.
