Aurora over Findochty, November 2001.

Chances of getting a good aurora photo are fairly random but I've found that a starting point of lens fully open, focusing set to infinity and an exposure of about 15-20 seconds sometimes works.

Lossiemouth west beach. Someone told me once that this
lighthouse is the one that used to be depicted on the
Players' cigarette packets - or is it Capstan?
I don't know if it's true.

Burning the Clavie, Burghead

One of the few fire festivals still commemorating the New Year
in Scotland, the Burning of the Clavie takes place every year
in Burghead on January 11th (the date is set by the old Julian calendar).
The Clavie, a traditionally-built barrel filled with tar, is lit and carried
round the streets of the village on the shoulders of a group
of about 10 local men, each taking a turn. The honour of being
a part of the Clavie crew is passed down through generations.
When the Clavie has covered every street, and the local people
have all scrambled for their piece of burning wood that will
ensure their good luck for the coming year, it is taken to the
Doorie Hill where it is placed in the ancient stone cairn
and set ablaze until the hill
is running with fire.

Cove Bay, Hopeman

Dinosaurs used to live here. There is a circle of stones nearby,
set up as a display, that contains many of the rocks that
have been thrown up by the local quarry with footprints of the assortment of prehistoric animals that made them.
A good place for a picnic while you contemplate
the meaning of time.
