Aurora over Cullen, 9th November 2004 This aurora started as a faint glow in the sky around 7pm and began sending up white streaks soon afterwards. The next stage was a vivid green which increased at one point to cover most of the sky, interspersed with red. The final stage before the sky clouded over was a dramatic flowing and pulsating of colour which lasted for about 20 minutes. The lights were visible from Cullen for about 2 hours, in various stages, and there were reports afterwards of them having been seen as far south as Manchester. The special noise that is sometimes heard during very strong displays, was also reported. Photo no. AUR881 Back to thumbnails |
